Most children are ready to begin learning around 8 or 9 years old (Year 3/4), once their hands can comfortably reach the tone holes/keywork and their adult front teeth have settled. Motivated teenagers and adult beginners are equally welcome at any stage!

Yes, students need access to an instrument for weekly practice. High-quality beginner student clarinets (such as Yamaha YCL-255 or Buffet Producer models) can easily be hired from local music stores or purchased. I am happy to advise on recommended models and reed setups during your initial enquiry.

Online lessons are conducted via Zoom or Google Meet with high-fidelity original audio mode enabled. This prevents the video software from filtering out high woodwind frequencies. All sheet music and practice notes are sent digitally via PDF after each session.

For beginners, 15 to 20 minutes of daily practice (4–5 days per week) yields fantastic momentum. Intermediate AMEB candidates should aim for 30–45 minutes daily. Consistent, focused practice routines are taught during our lessons.

Lessons cancelled with at least 24 hours' notice can be rescheduled to a makeup slot or conducted online. Lessons cancelled with less than 24 hours' notice are forfeit as the time slot has been reserved for the student.
